This site has many influences, but Historical Football Kits is one of the strongest.
On the eve of each new season, it was always a treat to visit HFK and peruse the kit galleries for each division in England and Scotland – while the site’s curator Dave Moor would be populating them as each strip was launched, we preferred to wait until they were all known.
In 2020, Dave announced that he would no longer chart clubs’ second or third strips and, at the time, I did consider trying to fill that gap on MOJ but domestic and professional duties proved too big an obstacle.
Recently, a post on HFK by Dave said that new kits would not be added and so, while the external commitments still remain, I have decided to carry on the flame, as it were.
The Championship gallery is up and running, with all home kits now included and the rest to follow; The Premier League gallery will soon be operational too and Leagues One and Two will come after that.
Some visitors to the site might have noticed the slow addition of club–specific galleries over the past while – it is hoped to eventually increase their presence to allow cross-referencing with the various competition pages.
It may not be a fast process – a pause button for the rest of the world to allow time for kit-work would be ideal, if perhaps difficult – but it will hopefully be worth it.
