New Balance kept things fairly simple with their first attempt at a Roma strip as they took over from Nike. The only real quibble one would have might be the out-of-place white bar on the socks. For the derby game against Lazio in March, the old 'ASR' crest was used.
Like the 2020-21 home kit, the 2021-22 change strip took inspiration from the distinctive 1978-79 kit. Worn six times up to November 7, between then and April 18 its only appearance was in the Coppa Italia game against Internazionale in February. With so many shirt options, it's hardly surprising that mashups were thin on the ground. The trip to Napoli in April and the Europa Conference League semi-final first leg away to Leicester City ten days later saw the home shorts used with the white shirts and socks.
While the third kit, featuring the Lupetto crest, wasn't launched until November, it effectively became the first-choice alternative with eight appearances between then and April, even in games where white might have been a better choice.
Launched before the third kit, this strip was a nice reminder of previous navy outfits but its only appearance was in the 6-1 Conference League loss to Bodø/Glimt.
New signing Rui Patrício had four options in New Balance's common template - we can't help but feel that it was a missed opportunity to not use the fourth (and possibly third) kits in goal, given their similarity with two of the choices.Bright blue appeared to be the most common alternative to the charcoal grey first choice.Even if the third kit had too many colours to be functional as a goalkeeper strip, the inverted use of Roma's main colours would have given this a unique twist.Rarely seen light grey version.
