- – We are currently assisting the wonderful THFCDB in terms of providing kits for the site; it is a compendium of all things Tottenham and well worth checking

In terms of functionality, the Tottenham Hotspur 2017-18 third kit didn’t really measure up as an alternative to the navy second strip.
However, that was never really the intention for it – in the league, Spurs only wore the white or navy shirts, with less-than-ideal mashups worn away to Newcastle United (navy-white-white) and West Bromwich Albion (white-navy-navy).
Instead, the dark purple offering, featuring a camouflage pattern common to all of Nike’s major-contract third kits that season, was reserved for European use, with circumstances limiting it to just the two outings.

In the group stage, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were drawn with Real Madrid.
A 1-1 draw at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu was the kit’s first outing and that result, along with a 3-1 win over Madrid at Wembley, helped Tottenham to top their group unbeaten.
They were perhaps unfortunate in that, for the last 16, they ended up drawing Juventus. It did mean another appearance for the purple kit – had Juve’s strip been a bit more 50-50 rather than white-heavy, there might have been as issue as to the kit matchup.
Goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen earned Spurs a 2-2 draw in Turin but, despite taking the lead in the home leg, the concession of two second-half goals meant they exited the competition and the purple strip was not used again.
