The kits were the same as those used in the title-winning season of 1994-95, though now with names on the back as Serie A embraced squad numbering. In Europe, 1-11 remained in use.

Presumably due to branding rules, players with double-digit numbers had the Kappa logo on just one of them. For the Champions League games, the numbers were blank while the socks also had to be altered.

There was a black third kit in the same style as the blue strip but it was never worn and we are not certain what the shorts and socks were.

Juventus became champions of Europe for the second time as they beat Ajax after a penalty shootout.

Eight of the starting 11 had squad numbers in the 1-11 bracket, though right-back Moreno Torricelli wore 4 rather than the 3 he had on his back domestically (Ciro Ferrara had dibs on 2 despite playing centre-back).

For the final, both Juventus and Ajax had names over their numbers – oddly, Paulo Sousa had ‘De Sousa’ whereas he had ‘Sousa’ in league games.
