1991-92

The home strip was unchanged from 1990-91. Forest made the finals of the Zenith Data Systems Cup and Rumbelows Cup, wearing red against the blue strips of Southampton (win) Manchester United (loss) respectively. In the latter fixture, the first had an inscription under the crest as well as the new Umbro logo and number style – most likely the first time they had appeared on a club’s kit.
As usual, red alternative shorts worn away to teams in white shorts and – due to a Brian Clough superstition – Tottenham Hotspur, including the Rumbelows Cup semi-final second leg.
Once again, Umbro went with a white change shirt, though the red collar made this look less like a Derby County top than its predecessor. Unusually, the socks from the previous away kit were worn in the 2-1 win away to Manchester United on Easter Monday and also at Portsmouth in the FA Cup.
Goalkeeper Mark Crossley favoured a pair of plain white shorts with padded sides. While there was a green third kit available, it was not used and would be limited to just a solitary friendly outing in the summer of 1992.

Adidas returned for a third stint as Forest’s equipment supplier. The home kit was a nice design lacking excesses but comparisons to the European Cup-winning strips fell down due to the presence of a crew neck.
The away kit referenced the River Trent while the third was said to be inspired by Nottingham Castle. The club were sponsorless for the first three league games.
