Another example was that Spain had to eschew their red home shirts during the Civil War to play with sky blue, white and navy shirts (paired with white or navy blue socks and black socks with the national colours), as only the areas controlled by the Nationalist faction could host international football matches during the conflict. However, it was in 1947, when the General José Moscardo, the then-Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Spanish Olympic Committee, decreed that the traditional red shirt would be brought back in 1947, which since then would feature in every Spain home kit.

  2. I’ve just read through this article again after posting comments on another football (gaming) site that Lucas posts on… due to my FIFA 16 classic kits work.

    Anyhow, I’ve realised how could I have possibly missed Thailand from 2007-2012, who switched from their usual red/blue kits to yellow to honour their king’s 80th birthday (yellow being the royal colour) – Nike made the kits at the time, though when they switched to Grand Sport in 2012, they went back to wearing red once more.
