Given that it’s navy against yellow and black in Paris tonight, all seems normal for the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund but, strictly speaking, it’s third kit against third kit.
As we covered before Christmas, Dortmund have a cup kit which has a lot of black on it.
That meant a change away to Barcelona and Internazionale, but, as their second-choice kit is black, they used their domestic home shirt, which is almost totally yellow, with change yellow shorts.
Incidentally, Dortmund’s fifth choice, as illustrated above, is what is officially referred to as their third kit but it is in fact a 2018-19 goalkeeper template and has never been worn by the team’s outfield players.
During the group stages this season, Paris Saint-Germain had their white strip – the third kit domestically – registered as their European home.
When clashes arose, such as away to Real Madrid, they used their ‘European away’ – i.e. the usual home strip – but the plan was that the new black fourth kit would become the first choice in Europe for the knockout stages.
As you can see, it is shown in the Uefa graphic above as the first kit but the navy, now relegated to third officially, will be worn. It seems that the PSG players are cognisant of failures wearing black in recent years and have protested against its use.

Not entirely true; they wore the kit once in a test game against Alemannia Aachen, see https://www.alemannia-aachen.de/cache/Alemannia-Aachen-Borussia-Dortmund-ff14a440a7bdeff4f5c04c369e209d30.jpeg.
