Since Chelsea went with a special 50th-anniversary kit in 1970, the sight of special strips in FA Cup third-round games has become a more common one.
Arsenal are about to enter a third year of the ‘No More Red’ campaign, Bolton wore a commemorative strip in 2022 and Crystal Palace will get this year’s third round underway on Thursday night in a special-edition fourth shirt.
Only 1,000 of these jerseys have been produced, with proceeds going towards supporting and expanding the Palace for Life Foundation’s impactful community initiatives for young South Londoners
Blue remains the main colour, with the sash – a style so redolent of Palace – rendered in red and white.
The neck style calls to mind the 1990-91 shirts – back then, Palace had an all-blue change kit and one wonders if it might have been better to do this shirt in red with a blue/white sash so as to provide another option if a clash arose elsewhere.

Everton would have had to change at Selhurst Park if Palace were in their usual kit and so they will be in their grey third kit, as they were in the Premier League in November.

Palace will hope that the shirts fare better than their last FA Cup one-offs – the yellow and black strip worn against Manchester United in the 1990 final replay.

Still all to play after tonight. Not a great match from either of the sides, so a draw was a fair reflection of this match. The VAR decision to sent DCL off was a joke tbh but as an Everton fan I’m fine with the replay. But in terms of kits not a bad match-up at all. Despite not being fan of one off charity kits that Palace kit looks nice, I just like sash kits a lot. And our third kit ain’t bad either. The only thing I don’t like about it the socks, I think they should be lighter shade of grey like in shirts and shorts, the darker shade of grey looks bit out of place.
Yeah Olli the socks are the same colour as the pinstripes on the left half of the body/right sleeves.
The shorts are the same as the base colour of the shirt but, as there are the aforementioned dark pinstripes on one side and white pinstripes on the other, they appear like another mismatching shade of grey!
