A kit match-up we liked
Metz v Auxerre, Ligue 1
The French league is very good for mashups where kits are mixed rather than just having alternative shorts or socks – we must do a bigger feature on how Lorient’s home strip has forced opponents to be resourceful.
*
You could make the case that Auxerre have a sponsor or two too many but the fact that their black away kit has blue and white trim allows for shorts-clashes to be dealt with in a way that still leaves the overall aesthetic looking nice.

A kit match-up we didn’t mind

Fenerbahçe v Nottingham Forest, Europa League
Technically speaking, there was no need for Forest to deviate away from their white shorts in Istanbul, but all-red is a look that has strong European heritage for the club.
*
A 3-0 leaves them looking in good shape to advance – they might even emulate the heroics of 1995-96 – and the red shorts may continue to be called upon as a lucky charm.
A kit match-up we feel could have been better
Milan v Como, Serie A
Can you tell by the phraseology that I have young children?
*
We actually don’t mind Milan’s annual special-edition kits that tend to be worn for a home game or two, but the ever-common Italian practice of wearing a third kit at home ‘just because’ is one that’s hard to get on board with.
*
On top of that, there was nothing stopping Como wearing blue at San Siro – the black and orange third kit isn’t a poor one at all, but it was worn at Napoli in the cup the previous week and so is not lacking exposure.
