Another break from World Cup activity due to it being a very busy bank holiday weekend of real work, but it will return on Monday, all going well.
We’re back on the one-offs train, looking at the two-tone purple third kit Rangers introduced in the summer of 1994, intended primarily for use in European games.
In terms of solving clashes experienced by a team with blue home shirts, its fitness for purpose was questionable, as can be seen by its first appearance in a friendly against Sampdoria (which doesn’t count for this series, because friendlies are like low-fat mayonnaise).
Unfortunately for Rangers, their European journey came to a premature end as they lost to AEK Athens in the Champions League qualifying round and the kit’s only competitive game was a tokenistic outing away to Motherwell on October 3.
Or rather, that was the shirt’s only game, as goalkeeper Andy Goram made use of the shorts and socks with his grey and purple adidas Predator shirt.
