The swapping of rivals’ designs is always a popular FKF trope and, ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby, we’re switching red for blue.
Three years ago, Jonny Thompson requested a swap based on the clubs’ 1990-91 kits and so we picked his brains again, going back a further six years to 1984.
At the time, City were clad in a popular Umbro shadow-striping style while United’s adidas kit was unusual in that the shirt didn’t have the famous three-stripe motif while the trefoils were on the sleeves. We are pre-empting the addition of navy to the City kit by a few years, but its inclusion made sense given the presence of black on the United shirt.
