Something different for the latest edition of this series, and not just because a nasty bug prevented publication on Friday.
This week, adidas and the National Hockey League released new jerseys for each of the 32 competing teams under the Reverse Retro heading – essentially taking a design from a club’s back catalogue and recolouring it.
A football version of this was suggested by Twitter user My Soccer Universe a while back and now seems an apposite time for it. Some of the base styles are self-explanatory, but just for clarity:
Ajax: 2022-23 home
Arsenal: 1992-94 ‘bruised banana’ away
Bayern Munich: 1993-95 home
Benfica: 2020-21 third
Celtic: 1995 third
Cork City: 1989-91 home
Fulham: 1997-99 home
Hamburg: 2017-18 home
Juventus: 2015-16 away
Leicester City: 2015-16 away
Leeds United: 1993-95 home
Manchester United: 1990-92 away
Olympique Lyonnais: 2012-13 home
Real Madrid: 1994-96 away

As a Canadian who is over exposed to the NHL, I love the idea here.
As a Gooner, I’d have liked to see a bit more. The version offered is extremely similar to the original. Perhaps using the home colours, or something out there (like the 1982/1983 green/navy kit) would have been better.
I want to know in my Master League, what numbers should I give my subs based on position. I would give the GK 12, but it is retired for the fans. I play the 4-4-2, 3-4-2-1 and 3-4-1-2 formations most regularly. There are lots of takes, and I take Museum of Jerseys as gospel a bit too much, but I am interested to know your suggestions on what positions should be the numbers 13-26. A thing to note, I make 6 the defensive midfielder because it makes more sense for the backline to be 2345.
Funny you should mention that Giacomino, as we have something lined up to ask that very question…
Well then, ask them for answers to our question!
