As it’s the last Friday before Christmas, we are going for a festive-themed FKF today, with Wales chosen due to the suitability of their colours.
After consultation with out Football Kit Podcast colleagues, Les from Hull City Kits and Gav the Kit Geek, early 1990s Puma was the choice for the flights of fancy.
The German firm were prominent in the kit world at the time but it would take until 1993 and a deal with Sheffield Wednesday for them make it to British shores. As a result, we feel there is a freshness to the offerings – the designers may have been off their chucks on hallucinogenics but there is an undeniable fun-ness to them.
For the home kit, the 1990 Austria style is chosen, while the yellow and green away kit is based on a design used by a few teams – one not unlike the adidas Ipswich, as seen on the Netherlands at Euro 88.
The Puma version’s most notable iteration was worn by Werder Bremen and the Bundesliga is also the landing point for the third kit – it was used, diagonal numbers and all, by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ardderchog, as we’d say in Welsh. We’d have looked dazzling in these strips, especially the Eintracht-inspired third kit.
