Tottenham Hotspur don’t have the longest Umbro-less run among current Premier League teams – Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace hold that record – but the four-year stint wearing the double diamond from 1991-95 is an oasis in a desert dating back to the mid-1970s.
Over the past three decades, Tottenham have worn Pony, adidas, Kappa, Puma, Under Armour and, currently, Nike, while their 1980s Umbro inter-regnum featured them wearing Le Coq Sportif and Hummel.
That latter tenure is looked upon with great nostalgia but it coincided with Umbro throwing out some memorable designs and it is such a counter-history that Steve Wilkinson wishes to revisit.
“I loved the Hummel kits,” he wrote,” but I’ve always been a fan of Umbro. I know it’s a bit of a cheat but could I get rid of sky-blue like Hummel had and essentially go for a 1980s version of the 2004-05 Kappa set-up with a navy/white away and yellow third? Also, I’m a big believer in Tottenham having navy shorts as standard with white being reserved for the European nights.
Steve certainly knew which buttons to press as we enjoy that Umbro period too.

Watford’s design is the natural go-to for the home kit, especially as it’s not unlike the real Hummel home.
*
Oxford’s unique away design is the choice for the change kit and the style used for a one-off Celtic third kit is the basis for the yellow strip.

As always, feedback is welcome along with requests for future FKFs – comment below or tweet @museumofjerseys.

prefer sky blue instead of the grey / shadow stripe in the Oxford kit – would be a nice contrast
Sticking with Umbro, wonder what other teams/countries would look like with the Scotland “paintjob” away kit from 91/92 ?
