The fourth club that Ben Newton requested for a late 1980s/early 1990s Hummel makeover was Ipswich Town.
In reality, Ipswich moved from adidas to Umbro in 1989 so that is taken at the start-point – the home uses the 1988 Denmark design (the horizontal stripes serving as a callback to 1984) while the away follows the orange direction that Umbro took (and have returned to for 2023-24).
Ipswich kept the home strip for three seasons with the away replaced after two to allow for alternate-year launches.

The 1991-92 change kit was white with blue and red trim, allowing for interchangeability. A standard Hummel design of the time, used by the likes of Benfica, serves as a good base.
Then, having earned promotion for the inaugural season of the new Premier League, Ipswich reverted to white sleeves for the first time since 1964, as part of Umbro’s retro craze.

In trying to Hummel-ify that kit, the Denmark outfit worn as they won Euro 92 is something of a no-brainer.
One quibble we would have with that design as a whole is that the tertiary colour – navy in Demark’s case – is under-represented on the shirt compared with the unusually-cut shorts and the socks.
Following on from that, thanks to Jim Hearson for spotting that we left out the Hummel chevrons on the shoulders initially and that having them red adds some balance.
As ever, feedback is welcome, along with requests for future FKFs – comment below or tweet @museumofjerseys.

I like the Hummel kits the Denmark kit looks good so what is better the Hummel kit or the Adidas one I requested?

Thank you very much for this. Forgive me for being greedy, I know I should have requested this at the time but
there’s fifth and sixth hummel kits.
These are for Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest.
It’s looks like very good and hard work.
