This is the third instalment of a mini-series based on a request by site reader Ben Newton – first up a fortnight ago was Sheffield Wednesday, followed last week by Derby County.
Next are Leeds United – while they have worn kits made by Umbro, Admiral, Asics, Puma, Nike, Diadora, Macron, Kappa and now addias, the Hummel chevrons have never graced their strips.
For the first set here, were are utilising the 1988 design given to both Denmark and Norway.
An unusual style with two low-slung bars on the midriff, it was able to be adapted to give more prominence to the secondary colour (as on the Norway kits).
In real life, Leeds had a new away kit in 1989 with a home strip following in 1990, both then retained until the change from Umbro to Admiral in 1992, albeit with the Yorkshire Evening Post replacing the Top Man logo for that final, title-winning season.
The simpler yellow and blue change strip is in a style used by quite a few Hummel teams while Norway again provide the inspiration – their last Hummel kit before switching to adidas was another little-seen but pleasing design.
